PLYMOUTH, Minn. -- Katie Dickison from Lifetime Fitness talks to KARE Saturday about fun new ways to help keep your kids active.
It's important to start practicing habits that encourage your children to adopt healthy lifelong behaviors in effective ways. Encourage your child to move their body after school, whether it's taking up a sport, a dance class, skipping rope, riding bike, or some other vigorous activity. Also, encourage your kids to just play.
If you're looking for a program that teaches your kids about health and fitness in a fun and positive way, Life Time Kids Academy, available in Chanhassen and Plymouth, offers great programs for kids 3 months to 11 years old! Kids can participate in dance, karate, yoga, Zumba Kids, pre-gymnastics, and sports skills or even arts and crafts, music, and Spanish!
The cold weather makes it harder to get out and get active, but don't let that stop you. Here are some fun ideas that you can do indoors:
· "Animal Charades" – Participants are given a movement to perform and the rest of the class will guess the animal and then perform that movement as a group.
· "Foam Ball Passover" – Participants lay head to toe in a line. They pass a ball from person to person without using their hands, only their feet.
· "Simon Says" – using movement skills (hop, skip, jump, bear crawl)
· "Underhand Toss" – Set up different stations where the children practice throwing soft toys into hoola hoops, increasing the distance each time
