GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn.-This Saturday your local postal carrier is part of an effort to collect enough food to create over 1-million meals for Minnesotans in need. However, they need your help.

Samantha Hartwig, letter carrier and food drive coordinator, joined KARE 11 News @ 4 with more information on how you can participate.

Letter carriers are asking Minnesotans to fill a bag with non-perishable food items and leave it at their mailbox to help stamp out hunger on Saturday, May 10. Sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers, Stamp Out Hunger is the largest single-day food drive in the country.

Here in Minnesota, letter carriers hope to collect 1.3 million pounds of food—that's enough food to provide one million meals for those in need. They'll collect that food while on their regular mail delivery routes.

Participating in Stamp Out Hunger is as easy as filling a bag with non-perishable food items and leaving it by your mailbox.

Minnesotans can also make a financial donation to Second Harvest Heartland, and from April 28 – May 14, 2014, TCF Bank® will double the gift, matching dollar for dollar up to a total of $25,000.
