GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - As crews get ready to place plants in the newly renovated KARE 11 Backyard, there are some things all Minnesotans should think about when planting.

"We want to keep some of the soils that are here already … so the plants are not shocked, once they get past the garden mix material," said Tim Johnson of Southview Design.

KARE 11's plants are chosen, the soils are prepared and now the placement will begin next week.

But what are things that you should consider when planting?

"There is so much to consider when planting, soil type, sun, shade possibilities, are you planting under trees? What is the competition like?" said Johnson.
