MINNEAPOLIS -- It's not everyday you get to go behind-the-scenesof one of the Twin Cities most popular bakeries as they prepare their holiday treats. Metromix reporter Shayne Wells did just that at Franklin Street BakeryonKARE 11 Sunrise and came away with some decorating tips.Even better, she managed to get a sugar cookie recipe to share with the viewers.Here it is:

Sugar Cookie Dough

¾ cup Vegetable Shortening
1cup Granulated Sugar
2 Large Eggs
½ teaspoons Vanilla Extract
2 ½ cup All Purpose Flour - sifted
1 teaspoon Baking Powder
1 teaspoon Salt
Mix together first four ingredients until smooth. Add dry ingredients. Mix until incorporated. Chill at least one hour. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Roll out to desired thickness - we recommend about ¼ inch. Cut into shapes and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 6-8 minutes until light golden brown. Cool completely. Ice with Franklin Street Bakery Shiny Cookie Icing and decorate with colored sugar or sprinkles. Makes about 2 dozen cookies.

Shiny Cookie Icing
1 cup powdered sugar
1 Tablespoon light corn syrup
2 Tablespoons water or milk
Mix together ingredients until smooth. Add desired food coloring. More liquid may be used to make frosting thinner.
