NEW BRIGHTON, Minn. -- A semi fire closed the westbound lanes of Interstate 694 in the north metro Sunday night.

The fire broke out around 8:45 p.m. on I-694 near Long Lake Road in New Brighton.

It took firefighters about 30 minutes to extinguish the flames. The semi was loaded but it's not clear what it was carrying.

The driver was not injured in the fire.

Traffic was still being diverted to I-35W as of 10 p.m. The road was expected to remain closed until at least 11 p.m.
