MINNEAPOLIS - Minneapolis police say a female bicyclist was hit and trapped underneath a Metro Valley Transit bus Tuesday afternoon near the University of Minnesota campus.

The incident happened around 4:20 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of 4th Street SE and 10th Avenue South, according to Sgt. Stephen McCarty fo the Minneapolis police department.

Investigators say it appearsboth the bus and the bicyclist were traveling west boundon 4th Street SEside by side in the moments leading up to the accident, with the cyclist in the bike lane on the left sideof that one-way street.

Bothturned left onto 10th Avenue Southat the same time, which is a two way street.McCarty told KARE that the female biker and bus collidedduring that turn. Thebicyclistwas partially trapped under the bus, but she was eventually freed and taken to Hennepin County Medical Center.

McCarty said thevictim is expected to survive her injuries.
