GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - Do you have the skills to be a true Minnesotan? There's a book to help you out if you need a few tips, or you want to give someone a heads up if they're coming for a visit.

It's a playful yet practical guide, outlining skills from building a campfire to identifying urban wildlife to carving a duck decoy-will fully prepare Minnesota natives and newcomers alike for life in the North Star State.

The book's author,Chris Niskanenstopped in KARE 11 Sunrise to talk about the new book.

The Minnesota Book of Skills brings to life the basic know-how that makes us uniquely Minnesotan. Seasonal tips like how to gracefully exit a ski lift mingle with skills your grandparents knew well, such as what to forage for while on a hike. How soon is too soon to bring a child to the Boundary Waters or set her up on hockey skates?
