STAR PRAIRIE TOWNSHIP, Wis. - Authorities say the 4-year-old boy who was killed in a snow plowing accident Tuesday was run over by his father who was operating the truck.

The St. Croix County sheriff's office says Collin Fitzgerald died after his father, Daniel, used the plow on the front of his pickup truck to pull snow away from the front of the garage.

Collin had asked to play in a snow fort his parents built while Daniel was going to clear the driveway. Daniel pulled his truck partially into the garage and as he backed up, he noticed blood in the snow. Authorities say Daniel immediately began called for help and attempted life-saving measures.

No one else was home at the time of the incident.

Collin was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"This is one of the most tragic events that anyone could ever have to deal with," St. Croix County Sheriff John Shilts wrote in a release. "This is an accident by all accounts, and our thoughts and prayers go out to the Fitzgerald family."
