GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. -- Dr. Elizabeth Klodas, founding editorial chief of, gave KARE some helpful tips for keeping your heart healthy over the holidays.

One easy way to keep your heart healthy is to commit to one healthier meal a day, Dr. Klodas says, preferably breakfast as it's the easiest meal to impact. Another tip for staying healthy is finding ways to get more movement in throughout your day; maybe park at the back of the parking lot during your errands for extra walking.

The doctor also reminds us to drink more water! Especially around the holidays when we consume so many high calorie drinks like eggnog, be sure you're drinking plenty of water and you'll be less likely to consume the other stuff. Also be sure to take your medications and never ignore how you feel. If you're noticing chest pain, shortness of breath, excessive fatigue, or any other unusual symptom, don't put off getting checked out; better safe than sorry.
