ST. PAUL, Minn. - The holiday break won't exactly deliver comfort and joy to Governor Mark Dayton, who will undergo surgery on his lower spine spine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester.
A spokesman for the governor says the operation will be to relieve the constriction in that part of the spine, called stenosis, and to fuse a vertebrae which is shifting out of alignment.
Governor Dayton will undergo surgery December 27, and expects to be released from the hospital the following Monday, December 31st.
He will then return to the Governor's Residence, which he will use as a base of operations for the next couple of weeks while he recovers. Public events now scheduled for the first two weeks of January are being rescheduled.
