ST. PAUL, Minn. - A St. Paul teenager isstruggling to regroup from critical injuries suffered in a hit-and-run Monday afternoon.

Police sayan officer found 13-year-old Brandon Smith laying in the street near the intersection of University and Grotto Street around 5:30p.m.He was suffering from a head injury, and police quickly deduced he had been struck by a vehicle.

Smith's cell phone indicated he had called his mother at 5:18 p.m., so investigators believe he may have laid in the street for up to 10 minutes.

His family lives on the 700 block of west Minnehaha, near where the hit-and-run happened.

First responders rushedSmith to Regions Hospital where he is being treated for his injuries. Theteen was last reported in critical condition but is expected to survive.

St. Paul Police spokesman Howie Padilla says officers on the scene did recover a side-view mirror and were able to take statements from a number of witnesses, but as of Tuesday morning no one was in custody.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident and have a description of the vehicle to call 651-266-5722.
