WAYZATA, Minn. -- Stress is not only uncomfortable, it's unhealthy.

Motivation Monday'sChris Freytagregularly turns to exercise to reduce stress and stay healthy, but she says food is another way to reduce stress on your body.

The wrong foods raise cortisol, a stress hormone. Chris says there are foods to keep that in check.

Some of Chris's top picks, turmeric, a spice typically used in curried dishes. It contains curcumin, believed to contain pain-relieving properties.

Also high on the list, wild-caught salmon with healthy Omega 3s, Blueberries and other colorful berries, which are chock-full of antioxidants.

Green tea contains healthy flavonoids.

For more healthy fats, try avocado and olive oil.

One of Chris's top snacks is guacamole, which she serves on raw veggies, or even alone. Her recipe contains two avocados, diced jalopeno to taste, chopped up cilantro, diced red onion to taste, lime and salt.

Chris has more healthy recipes on her website and also a link to a her cookbook "Choose This!"
