SHAKOPEE, Minn. - A south metro pet store is asking people to keep their eyes open for a puppy stolen from the business Monday morning.

Surveillance cameras captured images of the man as he ran from Petland Shakopee with the 9-week-old Chihuahua puppy around 11 a.m. He had asked to see the puppy, and employees set the suspect up to play with the dog in a puppy room before he stole it.

Petland Shakopee owner Heather Latko describes the suspect as a white male, round 6 feet tall wearing agrey knitted hat. Witnesses say him jump into a dark blue Volkswagen Passat with the license plate 768BDA. Local police were immediately notified and a lost pet alert was issued. Latko saysthe puppy's safety is the store's primary concern. Young puppies require special care and if not taken care of properly he could become fatally ill.
