MINNEAPOLIS- An eight-hour standoff in north Minneapolis has ended.
Sgt. Stephen McCarty with the Minneapolis Police Department says officers used a robotic device to gain entry into the home in the 3500 block of Newton Avenue North.
McCarty said a chemical agent was deployed to help subdue the suspect, and he was taken into custody around 12:15 p.m.
The suspect was taken to a local hospital, which McCarty says is standard procedure, and he will later be booked into the Hennepin County Jail.
The standoff started around 4:40 a.m. when a man with a weapon took two adults and one child hostage inside the home. Eventually, the suspect released the three hostages unharmed, though the standoff continued for several more hours.
No officers were injured during the ordeal.
