MINNEAPOLIS -- Former Viking Chris Kluwe has returned to Minnesota to serve as grand marshall at the Pride Parade.
The high-profile activist was released from the Vikings in early May and has since signed with the Oakland Raiders.
While Kluwe is paid for his punting skills, he has become better known for for his outspoken support of gay rights.
He made national headlines after becoming embroiled in a high-profile flap with a Maryland lawmaker who wrote a letter to the owner of the Baltimore Ravens telling him to control his players and what they said about gay rights.
The Twin Cities Pride Parade is one of the biggest in the nation, and is expected to draw thousands of people.
