GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - Minneapolis songstress Caroline Smith stopped by the KARE 11 Backyard to perform three tunes for Music Monday.

Smith's soulful R&B sound is accompanied by backup singers Lizzo and Hannah von der Hoff, as well as bassist with her backup singers, Lizzo and Hannah von der Hoff, and bassist, Jesse Schuster.

Smith has been busy working on her new album, "Half About Being a Woman," which is set to be released on October 8, 2013. She has also launched a Kickstarter campaign to help support the project.

"This new record is really about claiming who you are, mainly as a woman," Smith said. "I turned 25 and it's kind of known that when you turn 25 you start loving the things that you hated before. So I just thought that would be a really nice thing to write about."

The band performed three songs for KARE 11 titled, "Buy My Something," "Child of Moving On" and "The One Thing."

Upcoming shows:

September 27 - First Avenue, Minneapolis, 8 p.m., $15
