WASHINGTON, D.C. - Despite the devastation that hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires and other natural disasters have caused in recent years, only 43 percent of American households have a family emergency plan.
For the tenth annual National Preparedness Month, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will launch a new series of public service advertisements for the Ready Kids campaign.
FEMA spokesperson Tim Manning visited KARE 11 Sunriseand says in an emergency, parents step into the role of the family's first-responder, which should include giving kids roles and responsibilities of their own.
The Ready Kids campaign provides free tools and resources for families to make an emergency plan based on three areas addressed in the PSAs' tagline: Who to call. Where to meet. What to pack.
