ST. PAUL, Minn.- Concordia University in St. Paul has slashed its annual tuition by $10,000, leading to a dramatic 65% jump in the number of new students.

Undergraduate tuition is down to $19,700 per yearfrom $29,700 per year, creating a record number of freshmen and transfers.

School officials say they were offering so much in financial aid that it made sense to just lower the sticker price, which was scaring away potential students.

Concordia University President Tom Ries visited KARE 11 to talk about the turnaround.
