MINNEAPOLIS -- Thousands of runners are taking part in the 32nd annual Twin Cities Marathon Sunday.

The marathon kicked off at 8 a.m. at the Metrodome and finished at the State Capitol in St. Paul.

Nick Arciniaga from the United States finished first with a time of 2:13:33 in the men's race.

Minnesotan Annie Bersagel finished at 2:31:11 for a first place win in women's race.

Runners in the TC 10 Mile started in downtown Minneapolis at 7 a.m. and also finished at the State Capitol.

There were also several events Saturday, including a Family Fun Run, the 10K and the TC 5K Run/Walk.

Event organizers estimate over 28,000 participants will take part in running events over the weekend.

Officials have advised drivers to find alternative routes to avoid roads closed for the marathon.
