(SportsNetwork.com) - Green Bay Packers star linebacker Clay Matthews couldmiss a month of action with a broken thumb, according to ESPN.com.

Matthews suffered the injury in Sunday's victory over the Detroit Lions.

"Clay Matthews' injury situation, he's actually in an appointment and all theinformation's not in yet," Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Monday afternoon.

McCarthy also said that the injury occurred on the final play of the thirdquarter, when Matthews sacked Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford for a 12-yardloss. Matthews headed to the locker room shortly after the play.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel said that all indications point to Matthewsneeding surgery on the thumb.

Matthews has 18 tackles and three sacks in four games this season. The USCproduct had 43 tackles and 13 sacks in 12 games last year.
