LOS ANGELES -- Out with the old, right?
Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries got rid of the insane sparkler he proposed with back in 2011 for an equally insane price at auction Tuesday.
The humongous diamond ring was the last lot in the "Magnificent Jewels" auction at Christie's this morning. It fetched $749,000, far more than the auction house's pre-sale estimate of $300,000 to $500,000. (At the time of the Kardashian-Humphries engagement, the ring was estimated at $2 million.)
A Christie's spokesperson revealed in a statement to USA TODAY that the 16.21-carat Lorraine Schwartz bauble "saw active participation in the room, on the phone banks, and from Christie's LIVE. This impressive diamond ring was sought out by two bidders in the back of the room, one online bidder, and was ultimately won by a bidder on the phone."
Kardashian and Humphries got engaged in May 2011, married that August and by Halloween 2011, she had filed for divorce. After years of legal wrangling, the divorce was finally finalized on June 3, 2013 -- just two weeks before she gave birth to her daughter North with Kanye West.
Got all that?
