PINE CITY, Minn. - Pine County Sheriff's investigators have questioned and released two men arrested Thursday ina deadly home invasionnear Sandstone.
Chief Deputy Steven Blackwell tells KARE 11 that the final of three men taken into custody Thursday afternoon is a juvenile, who remains in custody in connection with the crime.
Deputies were called to the home in rural Sandstone just after 2:30 a.m. on reports of shots fired. When they arrived they found a 23-year-old man dead, fatally shot by the elderly homeowner who told them he awoke to the sound ofpeople in his home.
The man told authorities that GypsyWayne Watts had a gun, but he was able to grab his own handgun and fatally shot the intruder. Another man, reported to be a teenager, was able to escape the home but was taken into custody later Thursday. He is being held pending charges, which could come Friday afternoon.
KARE 11 spoke with the homeowner Friday morning. He told reporter Jeffrey Demars that he would love to tell his side of the story but has been advised by his attorney to remain quiet for now.
