APPLE VALLEY, Minn. -- Apple Valley senior point guard Tyus Jones will play his college basketball at Duke University.
Jones made a joint announcement along with Jahlil Okafor, another top recruit who is from Chicago, via ESPN U on Friday.
"To have a chance to go and play under arguably the best coach of all time, in coach (Mike Krzyzewski), and one of the best basketball minds out there," Jones said, "We felt like we would learn a lot being under him."
The pair talked to each other and decided on a school that they would both like to attend.
"I would never have thought growing up that I'd a had theopportunities that I have today," Jones said. "I just want to thankeverybody."
ESPN's rankings have Jones and Okafor in the top 5 as far as incoming freshman next season.
Jones' success dates back to junior high when he began playing for the Apple Valley varsity team as an 8th grader. At 13 years old, Tyus cracked the Eagles starting lineup to average 17 points a game.
The five star recruit is the total package at point guard. He can drive and shoot, but his effortless ability to find the open teammate makes him special.
Last season, Jones led Apple Valley to the school's first State Basketball Championship. He is already the school's all-time scoring and assist leader.
