DULUTH, Minn - Chris Plys just can't help having his own style.

"If you don't like me, then that's cool. If you do, then cool," said the Olympic curler.

If you judge this book by it's cover you'll never quite understand the intricacy of the true storyline. Tatooed up and down, outfitted in trendy clothes, with a passion for collecting interesting shoes, Chris kind of likes being thought of as the "bad boy" of curling.

"I just kind of do my own thing," said Plys. "But yeah, bad boy works for me. It's better than a lot of other things I guess."

Plys was an alternate on the 2010 Olympic team that competed in Vancouver and hebecame somewhat of a star. He was featured in ESPN, the magazine, met the president and even became close friends with San Francisco 49er tight end Vernon Davis

"We took a cab and I paid for the cab and that was the year after his massive extension," said Plys.

Chris' biggest fan was his father Patrick.

"His dad was a huge supporter," said Chris' mother Laura Plys. "Usually he and I couldn't watch it at the same place because I wanted to talk about it and he was really focused on watching him."

Patrick Plys passed away just over a year ago after a 17 year battle with brain cancer.

"When something like that happens, you know, you can be one of two things: you can either totally go your separate ways and let stuff like that destroy thigns or you can make the most of it," Plys said.

Chris chose the latter. He took over his father's restaurant supply business.

"I saw him really have a shift of "me-focus" to how can I help my family,"Laura said. "And I know he gave up a lot to do that for us, but it was never a question either for him."

When he's not working his business, or helping design and launch a curling clothing line-- Chris says he is focused more now then ever on the sports of curling.

He wont be going to Sochi this time around..after his team failed to win the trials last month. But there is a good chance it won't be the last we hear of Chris Plys.
