USAFA, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Behind a career-high 24 points from Max Yon, the Air Force Falcons downed the South Dakota Coyotes, 94-86, in a non- conference bout at Clune Arena.
Yon shot 8-of-18 from the field and added five assists for Air Force (4-4), which snapped a two-game losing streak. Marek Olesinski contributed 19 points, eight rebounds and four assists, Justin Hammonds scored 13 points, and Tre' Coggins and Hayden Graham pitched in 12 and 10 points, respectively.
For South Dakota (3-4), which had won its previous three games, Casey Kasperbauer shot 6-of-9 from 3-point range en route to 20 points, while Trey Norris (15 points), Trevor Gruis (14) and Brandon Bos (13) were also solid.
Air Force shot 47.8 percent from the field in the first half, but South Dakota was even better at 52.0 percent, as the Coyotes carried a 40-32 lead into intermission.
The Coyotes continued to have a hot hand in the second half, making 56 percent of their field goal tries, but the Falcons also improved to 60 percent shooting. South Dakota also found itself in foul trouble in the second stanza, which led to a 26-of-33 showing at the free-throw line for Air Force, which helped it overtake the lead down the stretch.
Air Force helped its cause by winning both the rebounding (29-24) and the turnover (11-7) battles.
