MINNEAPOLIS -- Dress for Success is a volunteer-led organization with an international reach.
Since 1997, this organization has served more than half a million women achieve economic independence.
Working with disadvantaged women referred by social service agencies,Dress for Success Twin Cities will provide volunteer "image coaches" who spend several hours with each client.
Clients will be provided with a work-appropriate, professional outfit for their job interview.
Clients who secure a job will then be outfitted with enough donated clothing to give thema week's worth of workplace options.
Dress for Success also enrolls those clients in its professional women's group.
"That's really where we're going to help the woman keep the job that she just got," says executive director Jeri Quest.
"We're going to give her life skills, like how to balance a check book, or how to start a budget. We're also going to give her some professional skills, like conflict resolution; how to get along with people in the workplace," adds Quest.
Dress for Success Twin Cities hopes to help 1000 women in its first year of operation.
In addition to looking for volunteers who can help Dress for Success Twin Citieswith clients, the organization is always looking for donations of clothing.
Edina Realty has offered its 30 metro-area offices as drop off sites beginning this month.
The organization is looking for new or clean, gently used clothing on hangers that is current and interview-appropriate. Trendy clothing is discouraged.
Skirt and pant suitds, jackets, blouses, dress coats, shoes, accessories, jewelry are all encouraged. Dress for Success is in particular need of plus-sized clothing.
