The Carver County Jail roster says Henderson was arrested just after 3 p.m. New Year's Day on charges of 3rd and 4th degree DWI, refusal to take a DWI test and violating terms of his conditional drivers license.
CHASKA, Minn. - Vikings linebacker Erin Henderson has been arrested for DWI for the second time in a matter of weeks.
The Carver County Jail roster says Henderson was arrested just after 3 p.m. New Year's Day on charges of 3rd and 4th degree DWI, refusal to take a DWI test, possession of a controlled substance and violating terms of his conditional drivers license.Carver County Sheriff Jim Olson said deputies were dispatched after calls complaining about a black SUV driving all over the road. Minutes later callers reported a single vehicle accident at the park and ride near the intersection of Highway 101 and County Road 61.
Deputies arriving on the scene determined that Henderson was the only occupant of the vehicle, which was traveling westbound when he lost control, skidded over the centerline, then through a grassy area and parking lot before crashing into a stand of trees. Damage to his SUV was extensive. Law enforcement said Henderson smelled strongly of alcohol, had glassy eyes and poor balance. A small amount of marijuana and paraphernalia was also found. He was arrested and booked into the Carver County Jail.
Erin Henderson was released after posting $12,000 cash bond. His next court appearance is set for March 3.
Henderson was arrested for DWI and possession of a controlled substance in Hennepin County on November 19 while on a personal leave from the Vikings. He later said his leave was related to the stress and pressure of playing in the NFL and fighting for a job every day while trying to support a family. He says the Vikings have given him the tools to make changes.
"I think something like this will give me an opportunity to step back, look in the mirror, look at my reflection and become happier with the person I am," Henderson told reporters.
Henderson is suing the Department of Public Safety to prevent the state from revoking his driver's license.
The Vikings released a brief statement Thursday morning on Henderson's arrest.
"We are aware of the matter involving Erin Henderson. We are continuing to gather information and will have further comment at the appropriate time."
