NEWPORT, Minn. - A Twin Cities area woman is charged with murder in her husband's overdose death.

A criminal complaint filed in Washington County says 44-year-old Jennifer Marie Johnson told police she filled up a syringe and gave her husband 30 to 40 milligrams of her methadone after he had consumed some beer in March of last year.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner ruled the cause of death as "mixed drug toxicity." Johnson is charged with third-degree murder in the death of her husband identified as DKP in the complaint. It says he was in full cardiac arrest when he was rushed to Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

In a written statement, Washington County Attorney Pete Orput stated, "This is yet another example of the results caused by the recklessness of those in the drug culture. In the last few years drug overdose deaths have become a scourge upon our

local communities. We in law enforcement are doubling our efforts in these types of cases as a result."

Authorities say Johnson's whereabouts are currently unknown: They have issued a warrant for her to appear in court on the charges.
