NEWPORT, Minn. - Police have a suspect in custody after an employee was fatally stabbed at a plant nursery in the eastern Twin Cities.
Newport police and other agencies were called just before 4 p.m. Thursday to Bailey's Nurseries on a report of a man being stabbed.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not released.
Newport Police Chief Curt Montgomery tells the St. Paul Pioneer Press investigators are not looking for any additional suspects and there is no threat to public safety.
On its website, Bailey Nurseries says it is a fourth-generation family-owned nursery serving customers throughout the U.S. and Canada, and is recognized as one of the United States' largest wholesale nurseries.
Bailey Nurseries issued a statement offering condolences to the slain employee's family and friends.

"Bailey Nurseries and the Bailey family is deeply saddened by the tragic events that occurred at our facility this afternoon. Our deepest sympathies and condolences are extended to the family and friends of our fellow employee. Please join us in keeping his family in your thoughts and prayers. Since the events leading to this tragedy occurred just late this afternoon, the police are actively investigating and trying to gather all of the facts and circumstances surrounding his death. As a result, we do not have any further comments at this time."
