MINNEAPOLIS - A Minneapolis high school teacher is charged with stalking and attempted criminal sexual conduct involving a student at his school.
Hennepin County Prosecutors say 46-year-old Dan Arlen Anderson, a social studies teacher at Minneapolis South High School, attempted to use his position of authority to coerce the girl into having sexual relations with him.
"It is very disappointing that a very few individuals use their position of authority to prey on the young people they are supposed to develop into intelligent adults and productive citizens," said Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman in a written statement. "I hope this prosecution sends a clear message to cut out this totally inappropriate behavior.
According to the criminal complaint, the student reported to Minneapolis police on May 17 that Anderson was trying to get her to engage in sex acts with him.The teen gave her phone to police and they recovered incriminating texts and photos sent by the defendant,
The next day, an investigator spoke to Anderson, who authorities say admitted to asking for the student's phone number and sending her a dozen text messages that were sexual in nature. Police say two of the messages included photos of the defendant's penis. Anderson admitted that his goal was to engage in sexual activity with the victim, according to the complaint.
