CANNON FALLS, Minn. - Two people are dead after their car crashed into a Minnesota State Patrol Trooper who was responding in emergency mode to a motorcycle crash Friday afternoon in Cannon Falls.
According to Lt. Eric Roeske, the trooper is a 28-year-veteran with the squad. He was travelling southbound on 65th Avenue in Cannon Falls with his lights and sirens activated when a 78-year-old male driving a Ford Taurus pulled onto 65th Avenue in front of the trooper.
The cars collided and the two people in the Taurus were pronounced dead at the scene.
Roeske said the couple is from Cannon Falls. Their family was still being notified so the patrol did not release their identities.
The trooper was airlifted from the scene to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.
Roeske said the trooper is in serious condition, but does not have life threatening injuries.

The trooper and the victims were all wearing seat belts, officials said.
The accident is under investigation by the State Patrol to determine all of the factors involved including the troopers speed at the time of the impact.
The trooper did have his dash camera activated at the time and that video will be used in the investigation.
