MINNEAPOLIS -- A St. Paul man was sentenced Tuesday to 18 years in prison after he was convicted in June of attempted murder.

Authorities say Zakaria Yusuf, 25, walked up to a group of men standing outside of a store on the 200 block of Lake Street West, pulled a gun from his waistband and fired at one of the men, hitting him in the arm.

Yusuf shot him several times, and the victim was taken to HCMC where he was treated for his wounds and eventually discharged.

Officials say the shooting was gang related, and the victim refused to cooperate with the prosecution.

Yusuf's sentence was the maximum allowed under the Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines.
