BLAINE, Minn. - Authorities are massed at the Anoka County Airport in Blaine Tuesday morning, regrouping to continue their search for accused murderer Ty Hoffman after a possible sighting of the suspect.
Blaine Police confirmed the status of the search, emphasizing that Hoffman is to be considered armed and dangerous. Images from SKY 11 show dozens of vehicles and SWAT equipment from police and sheriff's departments parked outside hangers and on the airport tarmac. The majority of the activity is centered on a remote wooded area on the west side of the airport property.
Tuesday's activity follows a frantic Monday, when officers made their way through buildings and a residential area near 89th Avenue N.E. and Jefferson Avenue N.E. in Blaine looking for Hoffman. The location was just blocks from a TCF bank that was robbed Sunday by a suspect whose picture closely resembles Ty Hoffman.
Hoffman is the only suspect in the slaying of 48-year-old Kelly Phillips, Hoffman's former partner and business associate. Authorities say Hoffman fatally shot Phillips outside an Arden Hills gas station the morning of August 11.
A $25,000 reward is being offered for the arrest and conviction of 44-year-old Ty Hoffman. He is the subject of a nationwide manhunt, but authorities suspect he remains in the Twin Cities, specifically the north metro.
