HILLSBORO, N.D. - Prosecutors have charged a 20-year-old woman with negligent homicide, accused of texting and looking at facebook photos on her phone when she rear-ended an SUV and killed a Minnesota woman.

Eighty-nine-year-old Phyllis Gordon of Ada, died in the crash last May.

Abby E. Sletten, of Hatton, N.D., appeared Wednesday in Traill County District Court after being charged with killing Gordon on Interstate 29 between Fargo and Grand Forks.

According to the criminal complaint, Sletten was traveling between 84 and 86 mph at the time of crash. Troopers say that there was no evidence that Sletten tried to brake. The complaint said that this "suggested the possibility that Sletten may have not seen the vehicle in front of her or that she was possibly distracted while driving."

A search warrant was obtained for Sletten's cellphone and "it was determined that Sletten was viewing pictures on her Facebook application on her phone, at the time of the crash," according to the criminal complaint. "Sletten had also sent and received several text messages since she departed from Fargo."
