GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - Minneapolis and St. Paul have an immediate need for more than 300 literacy and math tutors for the 2014-2015 school year.

Anna Peters, Recruitment and Outreach Manager for The Minnesota Reading Corps and Math Corps, and Nancy Berend, Minnesota Reading Corps Tutor, came by KARE Saturday to share information about the need for tutors.

The Minnesota Reading Corps and Math Corps are placing more than 1,200 tutors in approximately 900 sites. These tutors will help more than 34,000 students in the upcoming school year. The goal is to help every Minnesota student become a successful reader by the end of third grade, and proficient in math by the end of eighth grade.

Tutors earn a biweekly living allowance of $526 and an education award of up to $5,645 to help pay for further education.

Math and literacy tutors are fully trained by Reading Corps and Math Corps. From August 18 to 20, Minnesota Reading Corps tutors will converge at the Saint Paul River Centre for extensive training for the new school year.

To apply to serve as a tutor, visit www.MinnesotaReadingCorps.org, www.MinnesotaMathCorps.org, or contact 866-859-2825.
