GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - The KARE lobby was crowded on Tuesday afternoon with people waiting to donate blood for the Spring Blood Drive, and that's a very good thing.
We've had a cold, snowy winter and it has likely prevented some people from donating.
Still, Wendy Capetz with Memorial Blood Centers says Minnesotans are loyal donors and have so far, kept up with the need for blood.
But Easter is just around the corner and people go out of town, so Capetz urges those who can, to please donate.
Spring Break also sends people off the far off locations for vacation. Capetz says, if possible, donate before you go on break. If you wait until after you return and your vacation took you out of the country, call Memorial Blood Centers to make sure you can still donate.
She said the Centers for Disease Control is continually modifying requirements for who can donate based on outbreaks of illness around the world. Capetz says requirements can change often.
Fork in the Road and Simply Steve's food trucks were at the blood drive Tuesday giving out free food samples. Those who donated also registered to win a 50 inch flat-screen television.
The blood drive continues until 8 p.m. We'll let you know just how many people showed up after it's over.
