LA CROSSE, Wis. - Firefighters have rescued a woman who fell about 40 feet from a bluff in La Crosse.

Police Sgt. Randy Rank tells WXOW-TV the woman was hiking in an unauthorized area on Grandad Bluff when she fell. The 22-year-old woman called 911 with her cell phone about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.

A La Crosse Technical Rescue Team carried the woman off the bluff about two hours later. Fire Capt. Frank Devine says it was one of the more difficult rescues they've done on the bluff.

The victim's injuries are said to be extensive.

Several trees had to be cut down in the process.
