Janet Yellen's confirmation hearing

Janet Yellen, President Obama's nominee to succeed Ben Bernanke as Federal Reserve chairman, will be showcased for the first time today in a confirmation hearing before the Senate Banking Committee. Yellen, 67, a Fed veteran and vice chair since 2010, would become the first woman to lead the central bank. While she's expected to be confirmed by the Democratic-controlled Senate, her testimony could set the tone for a new era at the Fed.

4 Marines killed in Camp Pendleton accident

Four Marines were killed in what the military described as a a range accident at Camp Pendleton, Calif. The Marine Corps said the accident took place during a range maintenance operation around 11 a.m., on the base along the Pacific Coast north of San Diego. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Star FSU QB investigated for sexual battery

The Tallahassee Police Department last year received a complaint of sexual battery against Florida State University star quarterback Jameis Winston. No charges have been filed against Winston, and the investigation remains active. An attorney representing Winston denied the allegation. "The case is open and active and the victim is working with the State Attorney's Office," Northway said.

Lou Reed memorial

A public memorial to legendary rock and 'n' roll star Lou Reed is being held this afternoon at Lincoln Center in New York City. Reed died Oct. 27 at age 71.

ICYMI: Health care enrollments fail to meet low expectations

The bottom-line number on HealthCare.gov didn't even meet the lowest of expectations: 26,794. That's the number of people who were able to navigate through the troubled federal health exchange's website to select a health insurance plan in its first month of operation, the administration said.
