RED WING, Minn. - In a deal today, Red Wing Pottery was purchased by the same owner who recently purchased Red Wing Stoneware.

Family-owned Red Wing Pottery announced this past November that it would be closing its doors.

Sympathetic customers piled in over the past several weeks and although it wasn't enough to save the business, the potential closing caught the sympathetic ear of new owner Bruce Johnson.

"The business, the brand, the product, the specific location, I mean this is like pottery village in Red Wing," explained Johnson. "We really didn't think there was any chance we would do it, and the more we got to know the Gillmer family it became apparent this is the right thing. It's almost destiny."

Johnson said he plans to assess the pottery shop's showroom and potential, but the plan is for the two businesses to compliment one another.

Red Wing Pottery may have to close momentarily to make it all happen, but Johnson said it is certain to reopen in the spring.
