DULUTH, Minn. - The snow-covered overhang above the front entryway of the Greysolon Plaza in Duluth, collapsed on Saturday.
According to witnesses on scene, which include wedding party guests, the roof collapsed just after 8 p.m. Early reports said that there were not any injuries.
Fire crews responded immediately by blocking off the collapse sight and directing traffic.
Elizabeth Hollenhorst, who was driving eastbound on Superior Street during the time of the collapse, told KBJR-TV that it was a close call for one Greysolon resident, who made it out of the way in the nick of time.
"While I was over there, I actually spoke to a woman who said that she had just been going to step outside and saw the [roof] collapse right in front of her."
The Duluth Fire Department is currently investigating the cause of the collapse. Heavy snowfall may have been a factor.
