MINNEAPOLIS – Two bodies were found in a bedroom of a north Minneapolis home after crews put out a fire on Tuesday night.
Crews were called to the home on the 2900 block of Washburn Avenue North at about 6:20 p.m.
Patrice Johnson, who lives across from the home, said she noticed smoke coming out of the kitchen window.
"It was just horrible. They had to break down the door to get inside," she said. "I never saw flames. It was weird."
When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from the one-story single-family home. Officials said they quickly extinguished the fire which was burning in the living room.
They searched the home and found two victims in the bedroom, officials said. They were both pronounced dead at the scene.
Johnson said she saw firefighters pull the bodies of a man and woman from the home. She said her neighbors were smokers. She added the man of the house spent the summer repairing and remodeling his home -- a home that will be boarded up.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
