ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Minnesota House voted unanimously Tuesday to rename portions of two state highways after fallen heroes.

The first, will rename a portion of Highway 8 in Chisago County after Nicholas Spehar, a Navy SEAL who's helicopter was shot down in Afghanistan 2011.

Spehar grew up in Chisago City and was one of 17 SEALs killed in the attack.

Rep. Bob Barrett (R-Lindstrom) said the honor came with the blessing of Nicholas' father Pat for two reasons.

"First, the fact that it encompassed all three communities in the Chisago Lakes area," said Rep. Barrett. "And secondly, by honoring Nick, you honor his team, his comrades that he served with and the ones he died with."

In a separate vote, House lawmakers also voted to rename a section of Highway 36 in North St. Paul.

That highway will be named for police officer Richard Crittenden who was killed during an intense struggle while responding to a domestic dispute in 2009.

The bill will move on to the Senate.
