Investigators say the victim was attempting to pass another truck when the second driver lost control of his rig and hit the first semi, causing it to leave the road, strike a guardrail and careen into a bridge pillar.

BARNESVILLE, Minn. - A trucker is dead after a crash involving a pair of semis in northwestern Minnesota early Wednesday.

The State Patrol website says the fatal incident happened around 4 a.m. on eastbound I-94 near Barnesville at milepost 24 in Clay County. Investigators say the victim was attempting to pass another truck when the second driver lost control of his rig and hit the first semi, causing it to leave the road, strike a guardrail and careen into a bridge pillar.

Conditions at the time of the crash are described as icy.

The State Patrol's Commercial Vehicle unit will investigate the crash.
