COOPERSTOWN, ND - A North Dakota farm dog is being hailed as boy's best friend after saving a 3-year-old family member.

Little Carson Urness was out playing the other night and wandered away from the house. By the time his mother noticed he was missing the boy was gone. After scrambling around the farmyard and surrounding acreage Courtney Urness called 911.

"I lost it I guess you could say. Yeah, it was hard," she recalls.

It wasn't long before 200 volunteers had massed to search, supported by a plane and K9. If there was a bit of good news, it was that the family dog, Cooper, was missing too.

'You think of the worst, but then I knew Cooper was gone," said Courtney Urness. "If anyone was going to find him, they'd just have to find Cooper.'

About 2 a.m. a searcher found the toddler about a mile from his home with Cooper the dog laying on top of him, protecting the boy and keeping him warm.

Little Carson was pretty quiet about the ordeal until he shared something today with his mother.

'Cooper laid on me. He kept me warm."

In a way, they're now even. Cooper the farm dog was abandoned as a pup, and the Urness family found him on the road and took him in.
