GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - KARE 11 announced Monday that Tim McNiff has decided to leave television news for a position as Executive Director of Media Relations for Media Minefield, a Minnetonka-based communications firm.

Tim began his successful career as a KARE 11 sports intern in 1986, but was hired officially in 1993 as a sports producer. He eventually became weekend sports anchor before making a move as anchor for KARE 11 Sunrise in 2004 with Kim Insley.

A Minnesota native, Tim attended White Bear Mariner High School and began college at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, before transferring to the University of Minnesota.

An Emmy-winning reporter for his Olympic coverage, Tim has also been honored in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Texas, for sports reporting.

Tim's last day with KARE 11 will be in late August.
