WASECA, Minn.--As John LaDue walked into court on Wednesday he didn't utter a word. But outside the courtroom his father David LaDue was vocal, defending his son.

"I'm proud of the way he's been conducting himself since this has happened. The whole other side to John that we've always known…I'm very proud of him. I'm just sad it happened this way," David LaDue said.

David doesn't believe his son is the criminal charges paint him to be.

The 17-year-old is accused of plotting to murder his parents and then bomb the Waseca Junior-Senior High School.

His father said he didn't know about the storage facility where John allegedly kept bomb supplies. He also didn't know about the journal his son kept which detailed his plans. David believes all his actions were a cry for help.

"I don't think he wants to lie. He got himself into a strange place and he wants out," David said.

His son is a skilled marksman and hunter but not a killer, David said. That's why his plan never unfolded.

"I think he would have continued to delay or find a reason. He didn't seem to behave like somebody who wanted to continue on with this," David said.

On Wednesday, a judge granted the defense's motion to seal John's journal. The state also submitted police reports and records to try to establish probable cause for charges. David is still undergoing a psychology evaluation to determine if he should be tried as an adult.
