WINONA, Minn. - First responders were working to put down a stubborn fire inside a storied building in downtown Winona Thursday.
The burning building is the former Winona YWCA, now home to a gymnastics and multi-sport facility called KidSport.
Witnesses say the building appeared to be fully engulfed, with flames leaping through the roof and smoke pouring from the structure.
KidSport owner Rob Murray told the Winona Daily that there was no one in the building at noon when the building apparently caught fire, and says no injuries have been reported. He said there was an early-morning practice, after which everyone left. He was alerted to the fire by coaches who heard of the fire and called him to make sure he wasn't inside the building.
The fire was first reported by someone inside a nearby building.
