BRAINERD, Minn. – Three young men who were walking along the banks of the Mississippi River on Wednesday afternoon had to be rescued after the chunk they were on floated away from the shore.

Joe Johnson, Russell Schroeder-Jones and Dustin Hansen were rescued by the Brainerd Fire Department after one of them called his mother who then called the fire department.

The firefighters were able to use an inflatable banana rescue boat to get them off of the ice chunk and back to shore. The three were not submerged in the water.

The Crow Wing Sheriff's Department was on standby to assist as well.
