Baseball Hall of Fame inductees announced

The next inductees to the Baseball Hall of Fame will be announced at 2 p.m. ET. Greg Maddux, the greatest pitcher of his generation, will easily earn election to the Hall, and perhaps break Tom Seaver's record of 98.6%. He will be joined by longtime teammate Tom Glavine and slugger Frank Thomas. Houston Astros second baseman Craig Biggio could make it a sweet quartet. But their elections won't bring clarity to the performing-enhancing-drug debate, or even civility among fans and media — traditional and emerging — who have rightfully scrutinized the process. Anniversary of Tucson shooting

Wednesday marks the third anniversary of the 2011 mass killing in Tucson that left six people dead and 13 wounded, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. Giffords suffered a devastating head wound in the attack outside a supermarket where she was holding a meet-and-greet event with constituents. She survived but left Congress and continues to recover from her injuries.

People's Choice Awards tonight

Awards season is in full swing, so get ready for a barrage of statuettes and speeches. Tonight's offering? The 40th Annual People's Choice Awards (9 p.m. ET/tape-delayed PT, CBS). Glee leads the TV pack with eight nominations, including favorite network TV comedy. Katy Perry roars with five music nominations. In movies, Sandra Bullock has five nominations, including two for favorite duo (one with Gravity co-star George Clooney and the other with The Heat's Melissa McCarthy).

Andrew Cuomo's State of the State address

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo gives his annual State of the State Address today. He proposes reducing corporate and property taxes and using his administrative powers to allow limited use of medical marijuana.

Former Miss Venezuela killed in robbery

A popular soap-opera actress and former Miss Venezuela and her Irish ex-husband were killed in the presence of their 5-year-old daughter when they resisted a robbery, authorities said. Venezuela has one of the world's highest murder rates.
