Hawaii's Transportation Department has released security video from Kahului Airport that shows a California teen hopping down from a Hawaiian Airlines jet's wheel well after the plane landed following a five-hour flight.

The black-and-white security video is shot from a distance but does show someone dropping down and then wandering around the tarmac for several seconds before an airport worker in a cart drives up and converses with him.

The video confirms the saga of Yahya Abdi, who the FBI says scaled the fence at Mineta San Jose International Airport at 1 a.m. on April 20 and hid on the plane for several hours before Hawaiian Airlines Flight 45 left for Maui.

FBI spokesman Tom Simon said San Jose airport surveillance video shows a figure cross the tarmac and head toward the 767. Yahya, 15, had fled his family's one-story home in Santa Clara after an argument with his father, a cab driver.

Yahya, a Somali immigrant, was trying to return to his family in Africa but got confused and stowed away in a Hawaii-bound flight, the FBI said. Yahya's mother still lives in Somalia.

When the landing gear retracted, he would have had to curl up in the fetal position or crouch down for the entire flight. There is no way to get into the main cabin or luggage compartment without removing large pieces of the 767's interior, authorities said.

Yahya suffered hearing and other medical problems and spent several days in a hospital after the incident. He flew home a few days ago but has not been returned to his family. So far, no charges have been filed.
